Open Palate Denture with Dental Implants

The Problem: The patient was tired of her upper denture covering her palate, limiting her taste and being loose

Initial presentation: note the facial collapse that occurs with dentures that have been worn for many years. Upper teeth seem to sink into the upper lip and disappear.

The Solution:  Four implants added retention to the upper denture so that we could eliminate the palatal coverage

Treatment completed with a Bicon titanium implants and a new over-denture plus three lower Bicon implants on the right side. Note the much improved facial esthetics.

This is the upper ridge and palate that the denture rests upon

This is the patient's original denture after we have added some soft liner to serve as a temporary attachment to the four implants we had recently placed

A view of the underside of the upper overdenture showing the four o-ring implant attachments which provide retention

The completed implant overdenture against the mandibular crown and bridge reconstruction which also involved three implants on the right side

The last three teeth on the right are implant-retained crowns

Implant overdentures can be the most significant restorations that a denture wearer can can get. They stop the moving around of the denture. They add retention where it is most needed. They can eliminate the palatal coverage for better taste and reduce gagging problems. Implants have the added benefit of saving bone once they are placed.
